- 3 miles roundtrip (out and back)
- Very steep with a lot of elevation gain
- Great views of the valley towns below
- Very crowded hike
Flat Top:
- Bedford VA, BRP Milepost 83
- 5.1 mile roundtrip (out and back)
- Multiple switchbacks, starts off flat but the last .5 mile to the summit is steep
- Good views of the mountains
- Solitude
Humpback Rocks:
- Humpback Gap Overlook, Afton, VA 22920 BRP Milepost 5
- 2 miles roundtrip (out and back)
- Nice walk up a gravel road for the first .5 mile, then trail hiking very steep
- Awesome views and the rocks are incredible to stand on and take pictures from
- Can be done as a sunset hike
Devils Marble Yard:
- Near Natural Bridge, Petites Gap Rd. Natural Bridge Station, VA 24579
- 3 miles roundtrip on the trail (out and back) and 1 mile up the rocks plus 1 mile down
- Extremely fun hike to do if looking for an adventure
Dragon's Tooth:
- Near Roanoke, VA 6128 Catawba Valley Drive
- 7 miles roundtrip if you take the Appalachian back
- 5 miles roundtrip (out and back)
- Very challenging hike but also a wide variety of different scenery
- Multiple overlooks plus a fun climb up the tooth for cool pictures
Mount Pleasant:
- North of Amherst, Wiggins Spring Rd, Amherst, VA 24521
- 5.5 miles roundtrip (out and back)
- Extremely flat at first (makes for a nice run) last mile is moderately steep
- Best views I've seen, features a summit facing the west and the east
- Great for either sunset, or sunrise hike (I've done sunset because the views to the west are better)
Spy Rock:
- 414 Fish Hatchery Ln, Montebello, VA 24464
- 3 miles roundtrip (out and back)
- Very steep hike, 3/4 mile on a gravel road .25 mile flat trail, 1/2 mile up steep trail
- Great place to camp at the top
- Bald spot at the top allowing for amazing, 360 degree views
- Perfect for sunrise or sunset (I've done sunrise twice and have yet to be disappointed)
